![]() ![]() ![]() It's really fun seeing systems that would be the precursor to games I'm more familiar with. Obviously I can't parse exactly what feels altered about the experience and what stays the same (I've been told strafing while shooting is modernized compared to what you could do originally, but who knows), but since this is a mostly new experience either way, I'm having a blast just running around scanning every little bit of lore and occasionally popping enemies. It also plays like a dream on a Switch controller. I've stopped in several rooms and hallways to just be struck by the sense of place, and the blending of new tech with old environs. The atmosphere is heavy and immersive at all times, especially once you get planetside and soak in Tallon's foggy locales. ![]() They've made the Frigate Orpheon and Tallon IV look as impressive now as screenshot comparisons and hazy LP memories tell me they did in the GameCube era, without falling into the typical "super shiny remake" pitfall of the polish harming the art direction. This is a really worthwhile remaster, if that's even the right term for it when they've put so much work into new assets. While I didn't get the Trilogy port I was expecting, upon seeing that this was a full visual revamp rather than a simple HD upres, I bought it on release last night and played it for about two hours. Prime 1 and 2 always managed to elude me in my childhood (I was a Hunters and 3 girl those games caught way more flak than they deserved), and since I didn't buy a Wii U, I've been craving a Switch rerelease to keep from having to go through the effort of emulating.
